Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. serves Bleckley, Pulaski, Telfair and Dodge Counties!

Habitat Dodge 1

Habitat for Humanity reaches into Bleckley, Pulaski, Dodge, Telfair and Wilcox counties

Since its founding in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Habitat for Humanity International is composed of numerous local affiliates, like Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry. Like its’ parent organization, HFHDC seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action, but also to assist in strengthening the inner structure of the home-the family through mentorship, training and support.

Though the organization’s offices, Habitat Thrift Store, and Habitat neighborhood are located in Eastman, Georgia-Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. is opening its’ doors to residents in need in Bleckley, Pulaski, Telfair and Wilcox counties. What this means is when applications will be taken for the next house building projects, and if there are projects-rehab to homes or families in need, residents of these communities will be able to apply for housing and other assistance. Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc., built 9 homes in less than 2 years time, including one in Bleckley County  and built 11 homes before that in under 10 years time. HFH of Dodge County has also  assisted a number of families in Telfair, Dodge and Wilcox counties through offering affordable merchandise in the Habitat Thrift Store, and before that built 11 homes in under 10 years time.

The Habitat Thrift Store is open to all on Mondays-Fridays, 9 to 5, and Saturdays 9 to 12. The store and offices are located at the Stuckey Habitat Complex, 711 Soperton Highway in Eastman.  Financial and material donations to Habitat are all tax deductible. Volunteers are needed as are sponsors for the next house build projects. For more information about Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc., call Dean Smith, Chief Executive Officer, at  (478)374-4841 or (478)374-2193. Avoline Smith named Team Habitat Member of the Month for February

Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. is proud to recognize Avoline Smith as Team Habitat Member of the Month for February 2008. Avoline Smith has been a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. for a little over 2 years. Her work mainly is in the Habitat Thrift Store working with customers, sorting through donations and assisting with fundraising events.

Married to Gene, she is the mother of four, grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 2. A member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Avoline, known as Nanny to family and fellow Habitat for Humanity volunteers and staffers, enjoys playing on the computer and cooking. "It gives me great joy to fix dinner for my children and their families."

One of the main reasons that Avoline is a volunteer is that "I am a people person and I love being around people."

As a retired person,  Avoline likes to volunteer at Habitat because "I get a lot of good out of being a volunteer. Not only am I able to be with people and help people, I get a chance to meet and make a lot of new friends. These friends are people I wouldn't normally have met."

"Being a volunteer keeps my mind active and gets me out of the house," the personable Smith smiled.

"Habitat for Humanity is a very generous organization," she added.

Congratulations to Avoline Smith for being chosen as the Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. Team Habitat Member of The Month for February. Come by the Habitat Thrift Store at the Stuckey Habitat Complex at 711 Soperton Hwy Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to visit with Avoline and the others.

Smith recognized as January Team Habitat Member of Month
Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. is proud to announce that Dean Smith, Chief Executive Officer, is being honored as the Team Habitat Member of the Month. This honor will go to a Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc. volunteer, staffer, Board of Director member, and/or organization/business who exhibits the purpose of Habitat for Humanity in helping families/individuals help themselves. Smith, who has served as the Chief Executive Officer for a little over two years, was selected based on his tireless efforts to helping provide affordable housing to residents of Dodge, Bleckley, Pulaski, Telfair and Wilcox Counties. Under the leadership of Smith, Team Habitat has been able to provide housing for 8 families/individuals in a record breaking time of 1.5 years, and sales have increased since he took over the operation of the Habitat Thrift Store. Dean has a real desire to go beyond the primary mission of Habitat for Humanity, which is to provide affordable housing for those in need, but also to assist in building the "inside" of the home as well--by helping to strengthen the family bonds and assist in providing life skill education for young people. Dean, who is married to Rhonda, and is the father of two children and two step children, is an avid golfer, and woodworker. He enjoys interior design and in his own words, "making things with my hands." A Georgia Bulldog diehard fan, Dean also enjoys watching movies, naming One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Tin Cup, The Great Santini, and Animal House as favorites; reading historical books and autobiographies and oldies music, like Etta James and Ray Charles. Congratulations to Dean Smith, January Team Habitat Member of the Month. For more information on Habitat for Humanity of Dodge County, Inc., visit their website at www.habitatforhumanitydodge.org
